Jessica Sizemore

June 2009

The VLP is pleased to announce that

Jessica Sizemore has been selected as

our Outstanding Law Student Volunteer

for the month of June 2009.  Jessica is an

advancing second year law student at the

U of A and participated in the Domestic

Relations Clinic this past year.  Jessica

has been an exceptional volunteer in the

DR clinic.  She is extremely bright, hard

working and thorough in her examination

of a client’s case.  She is also an

empathetic listener and terrific with clients.

The VLP is very proud to have Jessica as a volunteer.

Originally from Northridge, California, Jessica received a Bachelors of Science in

finance from San Diego State University in 2006.  Before attending law school,

Jessica worked as a paralegal in San Diego gaining experience within the field

of law.  She also volunteered as a camp counselor for the North Valley YMCA,

something that she has continued to do as a law student.

Since moving to Tucson, Jessica has enjoyed her time at the U of A’s College

of Law and has kept busy!  She is involved with such organizations as the Law

Woman’s Association, the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association,

Wills for Heroes, the Minority Coalition, and also as a 2L writer for Law Review.

Her favorite class was with Professor Dave Marcus, her small section civil

procedure professor. She says, “He was able to stimulate discussion among

class members and kept the class interesting and understandable.”

Volunteering with the VLP Jessica seized the opportunity to give back to the

local community of Tucson.  Having always been involved with volunteer work

Jessica felt that the opportunities at VLP provided a chance to “make a

connection to the community here in Tucson while also getting a more hands on

experience than studying law in the classroom. “  Jessica feels that the most

important thing she has learned while volunteering is an understanding of the

importance of clients.  She says, “Sometimes in law school it is easy to forget

that there are actual people involved in lawsuits.  VLP allows students to be

reminded of the human aspect.”

When not studying for school or staying busy with clubs and activities, Jessica

likes to relax by cooking, scrap booking, or watching episodes of House or The

Office.  You may also find her enjoying dinner downtown with friends at Café

Poca Cosa.  Looking towards the future, Jessica hopes to work as a prosecutor

with the U.S. Attorneys Office after graduation.
